Clan of Xymox is one of the most recognizable bands in the post-punk scene, constantly surprising fans with new releases. Their style remains consistently innovative and influential across the entire music scene.
The latest single, titled "Blood of Christ," was released on December 5. The song is an experiment, maintaining the traditional electronic character of Clan of Xymox's post-punk sound.
The lyrics of this song reflect on suffering, deception, and numbness that accompany the modern world. It describes a person who has seen everything and cannot find meaning in the surrounding reality. People desire more, but they do not see that their pursuit of profit only brings pain and destruction. Instead of standing guard over the truth, they often allow themselves to be deceived and live in illusion. The text features the motif of "the blood of Christ" and "the cup of pleasure," which may symbolize an attempt to detach from the world, to escape into something that provides temporary relief but does not solve real problems.
Clan of Xymox, hailing from the Netherlands, is regarded by many as pioneers of Gothic Rock and Darkwave. These are not just empty words – the band has indeed been one of the most influential in their musical sphere, traveling worldwide and releasing album after album for the past four decades. Going through numerous lineup changes, Ronny Moorings, a multi-instrumentalist, is currently the only original member of the band. As the main songwriter for Clan of Xymox since the 1990s, Moorings still manages to keep their music exciting, surrounded by a solid touring band. In recent years, they have performed with Mojca Zugna on bass, Mario Usai on guitar/bass, Sean Goebel on keyboards/synth drums/background vocals, and Daniel Hoffmann on effects/sequencer.
